FAQ ON TEACHERS for EDUCATIONAL EQUITY

How is this Initiative different from other teacher education programmes?

YTL Foundation and the University of Birmingham acknowledge that many teachers in high-needs formal and informal schools bring valuable experience but lack formal qualifications, and have limited access to obtaining quality teacher education from a recognised institution.

Therefore, this Initiative aims to work in partnership with alternative learning centres and Teach for Malaysia to ensure their teachers receive world-class quality pedagogical skills to teach children from the most underserved, underprivileged, and marginalised communities, in Malaysia.

We also strive to create a self-sustaining teacher education framework wherein graduates of this Initiative have the skills to:

  • Create curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments which promote inclusion;
  • Become qualified school leaders who can mentor, coach, and transform school cultures; and
  • Become skilled and qualified researchers who can evidence and impact systemic change within Malaysia’s education landscape.

What would I gain from the Initiative?

If you successfully complete the PGCEi (Malaysia), you will gain a postgraduate-level teacher education certificate from the University of Birmingham that is part of the prestigious UK Russell Group.

If you successfully complete the MA Education (Inclusion, Equity and Transformation), you will gain a postgraduate degree from the University of Birmingham that is part of the prestigious UK Russell Group.
