About Leaps Academy

"

When the pandemic brought life to a pause, we made sure education didn’t stop.

Before the pandemic, we ran after-school educational programmes in two centres: one for the local community at the Creative Learning and IT Centre (CLiC) in UTC Sentul, and the other for underserved children at 54C, the YTL Learning Space in Bukit Bintang.

Physical classes at these two centres were disrupted when the first pandemic lockdown took effect in March 2020. In response, Leaps Academy was formed to continue providing education for these underprivileged children. There has been a combined attendance of 37,200 for our online classes.

About 54C, The YTL Learning Space

The YTL Learning Space was established in 2015 in the heart of Bukit Bintang to serve the local community and employees of the YTL Group. Over time, news of our creative and engaging children programmes travelled, attracting more volunteers and teachers, which in turn enabled us to reach more in the community. Among our organised activities are after-school educational programmes, holiday activities for children of YTL staff and community engagements.

Testimonials

“It is something that they have not learned in school. What is more important for me is that they could communicate, build self-confidence and make some new friends.”
Amelia binti Abidin

“Thank you for giving our students the opportunities to learn woodwork, drawing & computer skills. The lessons were fun and interesting and our children always look forward to learning new things at 54C. They also gain knowledge and new skills as these activities are not available at our centre.”

“So happy my daughter joined the highly rated animation and music-based financial literacy programme, Cha Ching. It instilled good money habits where she learned the concept of Earn, Spend, Donate and Save.”

We understand the challenges of online learning. To encourage positive behaviour and motivate learning, we established an assessment system known as StudentQR Points. This enables teachers to award merits based on a student’s positive behaviour during classes.

Collaborations

Tuition for a Cause
YB Maria Chin, a member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya, approached us to help provide free tuition classes to B40 students in her constituency. The goal was to help students struggling due to prolonged school closures during the pandemic. To achieve this, we sponsored 15 Chromebooks and organised lessons so 60 students could attend online classes.
MyPJ Mathematics Classes
We worked with MyPJ to organise mathematics classes for 40 students aged 7 to 12 from PPR Desa Mentari and Sri Pantai. This was made possible by volunteer teachers from Heriot-Watt University, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and University Malaya (UM). Training was conducted as it was a first-time experience for most, especially in teaching online classes.
