The Malaysia Teacher Prize Award seeks to honour the unsung heroes who are championing and empowering our next generation within and beyond the classroom. In collaboration with PEMIMPIN GSL, and supported by our Foundation, this award is our country’s very own edition of the renowned Global Teacher Prize.

The Malaysia Teacher Prize winner will receive a cash prize of RM50,000, while the following top 5 finalists will receive RM5,000 each.

The inaugural Malaysia Teacher Prize Malaysia Teacher Prize saw over 800 applications. Participants are required to have at least 5 years teaching experience, and teach at least 10 hours a week.

Entries were shortlisted to 10 by an esteemed panel of judges consisting of academicians, officials from the Ministry of Education, and outstanding individuals from educational and non-educational organisations.

Anuthra Sirisena became the first-ever Malaysia Teacher Prize winner. A chemistry teacher at SMJK Chung Hwa in Tenom, Sabah, her integration of technology and gamification into her classroom has contributed to her school consistently being Top 10 for SPM Chemistry in the entire state.

Beyond her school, she is co-founder of the Tenom Innovation Centre (TIC) and conducts workshops to upskill more than 2,000 teachers and students. Anuthra is just one of many inspiring and worthy contenders.

This award hopes to bring awareness and increase participation, with the aim of inspiring teachers who are making a positive impact by championing and empowering our next generation, within and beyond the classroom.
