Frog Classroom

We believe a good learning environment encourages and promotes effective learning by:

  • Fostering individual and group work
  • Providing a space for presentation and exploration
  • Encouraging interaction
  • Fostering formal and informal learning

We introduced the Frog Classroom to enable the use of technology, creativity, collaborative learning, critical thinking and communication – key components of 21st Century education.

Our first Frog Classroom was transformed in 2014. Initially a project carried out by volunteers from the YTL Group, it garnered attention from schools, parents, organisations and the Ministry of Education within just a year. As more schools appreciated its benefits, we began partnering with Parents Teachers Associations to equip and transform these spaces. As of 2020, there were 350 Frog Classrooms throughout Malaysia.

Frog Classroom in Tamil Schools

Recognising the impact of positive learning experiences through the Frog Classroom, we partnered with the Ministry of Education to transform classrooms in 47 Tamil schools. The Ministry of Education provided a grant of RM15,000 for each Tamil school, while we contributed RM15,000 worth of custom-made tables, chairs, air conditioning units and other support to make this 21st Century learning space accessible to children in Tamil schools.
In 2017, members of the Parents Teachers Associations and the Board of Governors from each of the 47 Tamil schools signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Foundation to build a Frog Classroom in each of their schools. We were honoured by the presence of YB Dato’ P. Kamalanathan, Deputy Minister of Education and Zaidi Yazid, Head of Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan. All Frog Classrooms in these 47 schools were completed by June 2018.

Frog Classroom Special Stories

School life should be enjoyed, not endured. Our aspiration for the Frog Classrooms is to provide the best learning environment for our children. We strive to improve education and provide meaningful schooling experiences. Our initiative has garnered the attention of teachers, students and parents who were eager to have Frog Classrooms in their schools. From Peninsula Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak, every classroom we built holds a special story of its own.

Frog Classroom Impact Study

An independent study on the impact of the Frog Classrooms, conducted by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia led by Professor Dr. Radha M. K. Nambiar, revealed evidently positive correlations between improved learning environments and academic results.

Here’s a summary of the study.

From 2016 to 2017, 110 classrooms from 15 schools were transformed.  Based on classroom observations, teacher and student interviews, and  questionnaires  from teachers and students, the study revealed:
Classrooms were more learner centred
Improved 21st Century skills
Self-directed, independent learning occurred in classrooms
Better peer interaction and learning

The goal of every 21st century classroom:

Clear objective of every lesson/activity
Instilling motivation within learners
Ensuring effective learning
Challenging students at a comfortable level
Teaching multidisciplinary learning

Two key factors for turning vision to reality:

1

21st century educators

We need collaborators, adapters, lifelong learners who stay current and have powerful learning tools to prepare today's learners for a future they will live and work in.

2

21st century learners

Students must be ready to explore, design, create and willing to be transformed.

21st Century Classroom Made Real

From traditional and typical to modern and exciting, watch us transform ordinary classrooms into 21st Century learning spaces.
