“I am among the very first students to be a YTL Scholar, something I’m very proud of. YTL Foundation strives to be the catalyst in building this nation through education, and I firmly stand behind this belief. 20 years ago, I was just a young school boy in Teluk Intan, Perak with a big dream of saving lives and wearing a doctor’s white coat. My mother, who is the true protagonist in this story, single-handedly raised me since the passing of my father, and deserves a standing ovation. Her perseverance inspired me, and with YTL Foundation’s help, I am fulfilling my dream as a practising surgeon.”

“It never crossed my mind that I would one day be a teacher to a group of teenagers in a government school. I always imagined myself climbing the corporate ladder in a sharp business suit. Those dreams took a turn about 10 years ago, when I faced difficulties getting admitted into local universities after my STPM. Private university was an option but I had to find a way to fund my education. YTL Foundation filled that void because they took a leap of faith and entrusted their confidence in me. Because of YTL Foundation, I earned a business degree from a reputable university, and I am doing the same for my students, changing their lives through education and giving the same opportunities YTL Foundation gave me.”

“YTL Foundation gave me the opportunity to pursue my dream in medicine, which seemed impossible as the funding needed proved to be too strenuous for my parents, especially coming from a humble background. I am truly blessed by YTL Foundation, and it encourages me to help others as well. After graduating from Imperial College, London in medicine, I dedicated my life to the patients at the Academic Foundation in London.”

“I achieved 9A’s in my SPM. Coming from a humble background, getting a scholarship was my only option for further education. I was relieved when TNB initially offered me a scholarship to study engineering in UNITEN. My scholarship however, fell through. I was extremely disappointed but it did not hold me back. I just continued looking for other available scholarships. I applied for the YTL Foundation scholarship and thought that I failed the interview because I naively said that coal was a renewable energy. I know better now! Till today, I am forever grateful for YTL Foundation’s trust and confidence in me. My internship with YTL Power provided valuable experience within the industry and this was the first step on my path towards becoming CEO of APCO. I am grateful and truly blessed, and I will always do my best in YTL.”
