At first glance, the world of IT may not seem like the most accessible path for someone with visual impairment but for Kenzon Yeoh, technology was never a limitation — it was a gateway to possibilities.
From a young age, Kenzon always wanted to be a creator. He once dreamed of becoming a chemist, eager to experiment and explore the unknown but life had other plans. Over time, his path took a different turn as he discovered the world of computers, screen readers, and assistive technology. IT, he realised, was not just about codes and commands—it was about innovation, problem-solving, and breaking boundaries.
Recognising his passion and determination, YTL Foundation welcomed Kenzon into the YTL Family of scholars in 2018, supporting him as he embarked on his Diploma in Computer Science. More than just financial assistance, the scholarship provided him with opportunities to gain hands-on experience through industry internships, opening doors that would otherwise remain closed.
For Kenzon, the most fulfilling part of his journey has been seeing his work come to life. IT projects require patience and countless iterations, and when everything falls into place and Kenzon’s solutions are implemented, they make a tangible impact, reaffirms his belief in the power of perseverance. His recent internship has also taught him invaluable lessons about independence.
While university laid the foundation, the fast-evolving nature of IT demanded continuous learning. Many of the skills he needed weren’t covered in his courses, but that didn’t stop him. He took the initiative, researched on his own, and pushed himself beyond the classroom to master new technologies.
