Scholar Stories:

What truly impressed me throughout the process was how much heart the Foundation showed. It wasn’t just about grades or achievements — they were looking for passion, purpose, and potential. That left a lasting impression on me. Even today, when I get to support the Scholars’ Assessment, I find myself looking for those same values in others.

Becoming a YTL Foundation Scholar changed my life in more ways than I could have imagined.

At the time, I had just completed my A-Levels and was facing the reality of having to make big decisions about university. I had offers both locally and abroad, but with elderly parents and a younger sister still in school, finances were a real concern. I didn’t want to place additional pressure on my family. One day, my mum came home with a physical copy of the YTL Foundation Scholarship application. I remember filling it out carefully, sealing it with hope, and sending it off — not realising then just how much it would shape my future.

I was invited to 54C for the Scholars’ Assessment, which included digital assessments and interviews with the YTL team. The final stage — an interview with Datin Kathleen stands out vividly in my memory. I remember tearing up as I shared my passion for studying economics, speaking about the inequality I had seen in my own city like Bukit Bintang, where luxury cars and five-star hotels sat side by side with people struggling on the streets. That contrast became the driving force behind my academic journey and my desire to make a difference.

Through the YTL Foundation Scholarship Programme, I was able to pursue a double major in Applied Economics and Strategic Marketing at Monash University, later completing my Honours in Economics in 2020. My research during Honours focused on education — a field that became deeply meaningful to me over the years. One of my most meaningful internships was with the YTL Foundation itself, where I supported community initiatives and taught at the refugee school. Teaching there gave me a new lens on education and privilege, and it solidified my desire to work in a space where I could drive impact.

Later, I interned with Pemimpin GSL, working closely with the founding team to support school leadership programmes. Because Pemimpin and FrogAsia were based in the same office, I also built connections with the FrogAsia team — relationships that would later lead to a full-time role.
After completing my studies, I joined FrogAsia, beginning in the Executive Director’s Office where I supported company culture and flagship projects like the Leaps of Knowledge conference and the HEART Series during the pandemic. Later, I joined the Marketing and Education team, working closely with teachers and school communities on professional development programmes. Today, I’m a Product Analyst with FrogAsia. My current role allows me to explore how emerging technologies — particularly AI — can be leveraged to build thoughtful, people-centred solutions.

What has kept me grounded throughout my journey has been our HEART values: Here to make a difference, Enjoy what you do and who you do it with, Act with integrity, Reach for perfection, and Think ahead and out of the box. These values have been my compass through every challenge and opportunity. Each chapter of my journey within the YTL Group has helped me grow — not just as a professional, but as a person. I’ve been able to explore different roles, build new skills, and most importantly, stay connected to a mission that matters to me.
