50 Tamil schools picked for Frog classroom makeover

By SANDHYA MENON, April 1, 2018

FIFTY Tamil vernacular schools in the country have been selected for the 21st century Frog Classroom makeover.

The RM1.5mil project will see half of its cost funded by the Education Ministry, with the other half by YTL Foundation.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said it is the first time the ministry will provide funding for schools under the programme.

“The construction work will begin soon and is expected to be completed in two to three months,” he told reporters after handing over the cheque to headmasters of all 50 schools at the ministry’s Education Technology Division last Tuesday.

Kamalanathan said the selection of the schools depended on its ability to fulfil certain requirements such as its location and Internet connectivity.

YTL Foundation programme director Datin Kathleen Chew said the foundation hopes to implement Frog Classrooms in 1,000 schools. With the newly selected 50 Tamil schools, she said there are 230 Frog Classrooms in the country at present.

Kamalanathan said the list of schools has been identified and will be announced soon.

“At YTL Foundation, we believe this is how 21st century education should be like and we are committed to building partnerships that enable more Frog Classrooms makeovers across Malaysia,” she said.

Also present were FrogAsia executive director Lou Yeoh, Education deputy director-general (education operations sector) Aminudin Adam and Negri Sembilan state exco member Datuk L. Manickam.
